Riven: The Sequel to Myst Now Available for iPhone/iPod touch
The long-awaited followup to Myst.
12.15.10 - 10:10 PM

When Cyan Worlds announced plans to bring Myst to the iOS platform, it didn't take long for fans to ask if its sequel Riven was coming along as well, and with today's release of Riven, now both games are available in the App Store. While prices often fluctuate, as of right now, Myst is $4.99 while Riven is $5.99.

Available for iPhone and iPod touch (it will run on the iPad, but not at the device's native resolution), Riven is a faithful representation of the original game that has now seen release on six platforms, and this time doesn't require 5+ discs to play. The game of course features high quality images, full screen movies, complete music and sound effects, but this isn't a lazy port: a 'bookmark' system allows you to save your location, iOS 4 support means Riven will autosave and multitask with your other apps, and Cyan Worlds even implemented achievement support through Apple's Game Center.

Like Myst before it, Riven is a LARGE (by iOS standards) download, clocking in at just over 1 GB. The game's description includes this helpful and sometimes humorous note for potential players:

Riven for iOS is a VERY, VERY large application. Weíve managed to optimized Riven from its original DVD size to a little over a gigabyte. Even at that size itís one of the largest iOS app we know of - so PLEASE BE PATIENT - download times and syncing times can be longer! It's possible on slower iOS devices for the downloading/syncing to pause FOR 10 OR 15 MINUTES.

Because of the large size it's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you download Riven on your computer using iTunes, and then sync with your iOS device. Downloading directly to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is theoretically possible via a wireless connection, but... uh... well... you really donít want to.

Because of the way the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch install apps, you will need to have about 2 gigabytes of free space to install Riven. Once it's installed you can use the extra space again.
