Final Fantasy XI, XIV Servers Temporarily Shut Down
Square Enix and other companies conserve energy in an earthquake-affected Japan.
03.14.11 - 2:11 AM

Due to the recent earthquake and resulting tsunamis that have devastated Japan over the last few days, Square Enix and many other companies in the area are working together to conserve energy in the country. As a result, some online gaming services that are based in Japan will be temporarily shut down for a week starting earlier today, including servers for both Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. Note that this does affect Western customers of both titles as well.

There is no exact date for the return of these services given the nature of Japan's situation, but they will be down for at least a week. Because of this outage, PlayOnline services for April will be free. To read more on the service interruption, players can go here.
