Nintendo Opens 25th Anniversary Site for Zelda
Details Zelda Symphony, a Flipnote Studio contest, wallpapers and other fun randomness.
08.09.11 - 12:00 AM

While Nintendo seems to be relying on fans to celebrate Metroid's 25th anniversary, they certainly haven't forgotten about Zelda, also celebrating its 25th year in existence.

Today Nintendo has officially opened its Zelda 25th Anniversary Site. On it, you'll find several things: First is a thorough, illustrated history of all the Zelda games since the original's 1987 release. The Philips CD-i Zelda "games" are thankfully not present.

Second, the "Make Your Own Zelda" Flipnote contest. Nintendo is inviting players to create their own Zelda-themed animations using the DSi's Flipnote Studio software. The entries will be evaluated by key Zelda series staff - in particular Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi. Winning entries will be published on the official Zelda website, the Wii Nintendo Channel and Flipnote Hatena. Entries are open from today through September 9th, and all the details - and audio samples for fans' use - are on the contest's official page.

The official page for the previously-announced Zelda Symphony series is now online, and has links to purchase tickets to this October's Los Angeles or London performances. You can also sign up for the newsletter to be informed whenever further dates are announced (which are not expected until next year). If the locations or ticket prices don't work for you, just do what I'm doing: Leave the Symphony site open in a browser tab and listen to the background music. The main Anniversary site also features a video from Nintendo's E3 2011 press conference with a symphony playing Zelda music.

Next: Wallpaper! We all love nice gaming wallpaper, and there's some great selections here, featuring art from throughout the Zelda series' history, including a wonderful piece of Master Sword artwork from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Finally, Nintendo also reminds us all that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was recently re-released on the 3DS, and Zelda: Link's Awakening DX is available in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Nintendo also re-iterated what it announced during E3: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords will be released for free on both the DSi (via DSiWare), and the Nintendo eShop with on the Nintendo 3DS.
