Square Enix To Expand In MontrealThe Eidos studio that brought us DXHR will expand, too.11.21.11 - 9:23 PM
Eidos Montréal has released
exactly one title so far, but it was successful enough to help warrant parent company Square Enix's growing interest in the Montréal area. Square Enix made two announcements today: Not only will Eidos Montréal expand, creating 100 new jobs, but there will also be a separate Square Enix Montréal studio, to be led by Lee Singleton, opening in 2012, which should result in 150 jobs. While Eidos is apparently working on
Thief 4 and an unannounced project (and hopefully another
Deus Ex installment too), the new Square Enix studio's first project will be a new
Hitman installment. This one is not to be confused with
Hitman: Absolution, being developed at IO Interactive.
Montréal has attracted quite a few big game studios in the last several years, not the least of which are Ubisoft, BioWare and EA. As far as Canadian cities go, that's outpacing Vancouver by a fair bit.
