Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Launches with Trailer & TV Spot
Two trailers bid thee welcome to Eorzea reborn.
08.27.13 - 10:10 PM

In case you hadn't heard, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn officially launches today. A massive restructuring of the original Final Fantasy XIV (released in 2010), A Realm Reborn - aka version 2.0 - has been on beta testing for the better part of the year. Folks who pre-ordered have been playing this past weekend (with varying degrees of success) during the 'Early Access' phase, but now the game is available to all.

One of FFXIV 1.0's many drawbacks - outside of the game itself - was the oft-delayed and never-released PlayStation 3 version. Thankfully, not only do PS3 owners get in on the action this time, but A Realm Reborn is launching on both PC and PS3 simultaneously, with a PlayStation 4 version coming in 2014. No Xbox versions are planned, because Microsoft... doesn't seem to have an interest in games with cross-platform play.

First up, is the newly-released launch trailer, seen here:

Square Enix also made available a video of ARR's TV commercial, if you haven't yet seen it during syndicated back-to-back repeats of Castle on TNT, starting the gorgeous duo of my captain Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.

...

So. Yeah. Let's watch that video now, shall we?

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available now on PC in both a standard edition ($29.99 USD; Amazon link) and digital Collector's Edition ($49.99). The PlayStation 3 version also comes in two flavors, though at different price points - $39.99 for standard and... well, a bit more for the physical Collector's Edition, though as of this writing that version is not in stock on Amazon.

Following a free 30-day playtime, monthly subscriptions will cost between $12.99 and $14.99, based on how many months you're willing to pre-pay. As a bit of enticement, Square Enix is offering 'Veteran Rewards,' with different in-game items for 30, 60, and 90 day signups. Even better, signing up for 90 days gets you all three tiers of goodies immediately. Learn more about the Veteran Rewards here.

One little aside: FFXIV producer Naoki Yoshida - or Yoshi-P - posted his fiftieth Letter from the Producer today in celebration of the game's worldwide launch. It's a good read, briefly touching on where the game was when he got placed on the project, leading up to today's launch.

We're planning some unique coverage for this game as we spend time with it, so please look forward to it! Until then, see you in Eorzea!
