Heart Forth, Alicia Is Probably a Game You Want to SeeGorgeous 16-bit-style graphics married to Metroidvania and RPG gameplay? All the yes.04.18.14 - 9:15 PM
When we first caught wind of Heart Forth, Alicia
this week on Kickstarter, the thought was to write a story and suggest that you give the project a look. Then the game blew past its funding goal of $60,000, and as of this writing, is just over $91,000. With 27 days to go, it's safe to say this game is in good hands.
If you haven't seen it yet, Heart Forth, Alicia is a "90s-inspired" Metroidvania adventure with plenty of RPG elements. It reminds us a little bit of another KS-funded game, Chasm, which is nothing but a good thing. Unlike some Kickstarter projects, Heart Forth, Alicia's developers have a partial game to show, as opposed to mere concept art. A fact which probably encouraged the 3000+ backers to fund it so quickly.
Check out the game's trailer below, and you'll see why we're excited: Gorgeous artwork is nice, but the quality of the animation makes it shine even more. The combat appears fast-paced and fluid, and it seems like the developers are serious about the RPG aspects, including a wide variety of loot, side quests (that vary based on the time of day), a leveling system, and an interesting approach to narrative.
A couple dozen more people backed Heart Forth, Alicia as I was typing this story, so I advise you to check out the project's Kickstarter page for a full rundown of what to expect. Originally planned as a standalone and Steam release on PC, the creators have already added a PS4 port as the next stretch goal at $110,000. Even better, in their latest backer update, they're teasing even more console ports as possibilities, to be revealed as early as later tonight. So keep an eye on that page!
