It's rare that we see developers open up about the importance of other games, particularly because they're so focused on making their own product. But Dragon Age: Inquisition producer Mark Darrah spoke candidly about how Bethesda's juggernaut changed everything about RPGs.

"Skyrim changed the landscape for role-playing games completely," said executive producer Mark Darrah in an interview with GamesIndustry. "I mean Oblivion probably sold six million units, basically that range, Skyrim sold 20 million. So that, to some degree, changes everything.

"Now suddenly you have 15 million people that have basically had the first RPG they've ever played as Skyrim. They have totally different expectations of what storytelling is, what exploration is, and I think exploration is really where we've seen the biggest change."

It's true that Bioware showed off quite a bit of exploration when it unveiled gameplay for Dragon Age: Inquisition at this year's E3. It will be interesting to see how this contrasts with the original two games in the series.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is out on November 18th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
