Hajime Tabata Answers Questions About Final Fantasy Type-0 HD
Also, see how the HD version stacks up against its PSP counterpart.
01.24.15 - 3:33 PM

Following their most recent livestream, Square Enix released another trailer for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD that compares the remake's new visuals to those of the original PSP version. It's been clear from the start that Type-0 HD is a pretty impressive rebuild of the original game, but seeing them side-by-side is still pretty striking. Take a look below!

Now that we've all collectively picked up our jaws from the floor, we can talk about how the game's director Hajime Tabata recently went on Reddit to answer questions from fans. Among other things, he addressed the reason behind Type-0 HD's absence on the PlayStation Vita. In rather humorous fashion, he cited his increasingly poor eyesight and said that he "wanted everyone to be able to play the game on a large high-definition screen." Tabata also did not rule out the possibility of a Type-0 sequel and, when asked if there would be a PC version of Type-0 HD, replied that while there are currently no plans, "I want to know when Valve's going to release Half-Life 2: Episode 3."

Moving on from the technical aspects of porting the game to other platforms, Tabata addressed some features from the PSP original and how they are being represented in the HD remake. For instance, character-exclusive accessories that were only available through a Square Enix Members download code in Japan have been incorporated into the game, and side-quests that were once exclusive to the cut multiplayer mode are also present in Type-0 HD. Tabata apologized for the removal of multiplayer, stating the difficulties of transferring from an ad-hoc system like the original Type-0's to a more complicated system of matchmaking over a server. Other features that were discussed included unlockable costumes. According to Tabata, both bonus costumes from the PSP version are still in the game, along with a brand-new costume for the HD version. There are also some new cutscenes accessible through the game's Crimson Codex.

Tabata also took the opportunity to answer some questions about himself, stating that his favorite JRPG is Dragon Quest III, and his favorite Final Fantasy is VI, earning him immediate respect points in my book. His favorite dipping sauce is also buffalo sauce, for even more respect points. There's a lot more where that came from linked below, if you'd like to find out more about Hajime Tabata, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Final Fantasy XV, or the prospect of an HD version of Crisis Core (which isn't currently planned, but I certainly wouldn't object!).

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be hitting store shelves on March 17th in the US, March 19th in Japan, and March 20th in Europe.
