Summoning in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Comes With a Cost
And we ain't talkin' gil or mana here.
01.26.15 - 8:35 PM

Like all Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will allow players to summon powerful creatures, called Eidolons, to their aid in battle. However, in Type-0 HD, Eidolons will function a little differently than series veterans are used to.

Casting a summon will cost the life of the summoner for the remainder of the mission unless that character is revived. Regardless, losing a character will effect the player's rating for the mission and can prevent attaining the highest score. Eidolons only remain on the battlefield for a limited time, so you had better be sure the sacrifice is worth it before calling Ifrit. On the other hand, Eidolons gain experience upon defeating enemies, and repeated casting lengthens the time they can spend in battle and can even grant new abilities.

Moreover, the choice of Eidolon matters. Eidolons move about the battlefield with the party and are subject to the constraints of the environment. In a narrow space, it may be wise to opt for a more agile Eidolon like Shiva over the powerful but massive Bahamut. In addition, the console version has improved Eidolons to make them easier to use this time around. They are generally more mobile and persist in battle longer than their PSP counterparts.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is scheduled for a March 17th worldwide release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Make sure to check out our updated gallery, too!
