Shields are in Bloodborne But Don't Plan on Using Them
Translation: there is nowhere to hide; death will find you.
02.07.15 - 4:13 PM

Contrary to what was previously assumed, there will be shields in Bloodborne. After months of showcasing videos sans shield it had become the common assumption that shields were not present in the game.

"There are shields in the game," a producer at Sony’s Japan studio, Masaaki Yamagiwa, clarified but went on to further explain hiding behind a shield will lead to certain death.

Bloodborne is in development by From Software and Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, making it easy to draw comparisons between the games. However, one of the primary diverging elements between Bloodborne and those other games has been the shield. It is good to know that even though shields are in Bloodborne, the gameplay will maintain a different identity than the Souls games.

"We wanted to encourage players to not hide and wait, but instead to be more aggressive and pro-active in battle," Yamagiwa said.

Bloodborne will be released for the PlayStation 4 on March 24th.
