From Software Gets Crafty With Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin

In a new gameplay video for Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, veterans of the previous iteration may find themselves caught off guard. From Software's devious nature is in full effect here, with different enemy placements and tougher foes ensuring that even seasoned Dark Souls alumni will find themselves faced with death and a return trip to the bonfire. In a series as strict about memorization and pattern recognition as the Souls games, it's nice to know that the developers at From decided to shake things up for this enhanced re-release.

You may also notice that the new gameplay footage in the dark, underground tunnel more closely resembles the early footage of Dark Souls 2 and is intended to showcase the game's lighting effects. The lighting's effect on gameplay was underplayed in the final version, butScholar of the First Sin is revisiting the idea.

You can view the aforementioned footage below, and prepare to die all over again when Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 come April 7th.
