E3 2015: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation Hands-On ImpressionsSadly, the Neptunia EX II Plus Alpha edition for SNES has been canned.06.17.15 - 12:03 PM
I spent a little bit of time with the latest Hyperdimension Neptunia
game at this year's show, and while it does not look significantly different from previous entries, Idea Factory has implemented some changes that should make the game even better for fans. If you haven't been following the series, all you need to know is that this is a remake of the third game in the series, originally titled Hyperdimension Neptunia V
(the 'V' stands for 'victory,' by the way), and it takes place in an alternate 1980s version of the game's world.
Tweaks to the Re;Birth3 version of the game include a fifth combo slot for characters to utilize in battle, allowing for even longer and more damaging attacks. There are a huge number of playable characters, as well as more NPCs for the Stella's Dungeon minigame. Extra NPCs will be available as DLC, which will be released on launch day in North America and Europe the following week. The game also includes an achievement-like system similar to those found in games like Atelier Totori, which awards bonuses for completing routine actions like "jump 500 times" or "watch a certain victory pose 20 times." Fans should be happy to know that the game's framerate seems steadier than in the original PS3 version, too.
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation is slated to release on PS Vita and Steam in North America on June 30th, with a European release to follow on July 3rd. As a bonus, three PS Vita themes will also be released as DLC when the game launches. Keep an eye out for our review later this summer.
