Final Fantasy XV To Get Simultaneous Worldwide Release
A first for the series.

Director Hajime Tabata has been very open about the ongoing development of Final Fantasy XV, providing consistent updates regarding the game's progress and even going so far as to open a public forum. In the aftermath of this year's Gamescom, Tabata had more to say regarding Final Fantasy XV, including the fact that it will be the first mainline entry in the series to get a simultaneous worldwide release.

"This may be something that we are little bit embarrassed to talk about, but really, this is the first time that we've done a packaged, standalone Final Fantasy game with a simultaneous global launch, so we didn't have the setup to deal with that, really. The first thing we had to do was rearrange our internal structure to create something that could do that. That was the first important work on the project," says Tabata.

Tabata was also on hand to talk about the tech behind the game. Trying to make the final product run at a stable 30 frames per second at 1080p is their goal- part of the difficulty has been developing for multiple platforms rather than optimizing for one. "Maybe we haven't fully grasped how to get the full potential of each of the consoles yet. We’re still working on that." According to the developers, 60 FPS will be impossible on consoles, as an incredibly high-end PC would be necessary to run everything that's going on in a massive, open-world action-RPG such as Final Fantasy XV. Speaking of PCs, Tabata says that there are no plans for a PC version at this time, but it will be considered after the console version's launch.

Finally, Square Enix is currently in talks with Avalanche Studios about using some of their open-world game technology from Just Cause 3 for use in Final Fantasy XV. This is because the team wants to give the game a sense of verticality. We saw something indicative of this in the E3 2013 trailer for Final Fantasy XV, and in the Episode Duscae demo, wherein protagonist Noctis uses his powers of teleportation to warp around the battlefield. "We've got really great hopes for this discussion. What we're going to be talking about is possibly being able to use their really unique, really high level amazing technology they have in their studio and using it as an add-on to enhance the quality of a certain specific part of our Final Fantasy XV game."
