Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey Going For Premium PricingSmart move.08.18.15 - 8:11 PM
Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey
, the new game boasting marquee JRPG developers such as Final Fantasy VII
writer Kazushige Nojima, has announced a dramatic shift in its pricing model. Rather than using a freemium model, the standard practice for the studio Kobojo, it will require a single payment up front, although there will be DLC later on.
Kobojo CEO Mario Rizzo accompanied the announcement by saying:
The heart and soul of Zodiac has always been to bring players a classic JRPG experience regardless of platform – the kind of experience that JRPG fans enjoy, and sadly, that no longer seem as common as they once were. Listening to the great feedback we received after showing the game at GDC and E3, we’ve made the unprecedented decision to shift gears from Kobojo’s usual free-to-play format to make Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey a premium game for Western audiences.
Having tried the game at E3 and recently railed against freemium games in the Random Encounter podcast, this seems like a good move if the company is really aiming to deliver a quality experience.
