World of Warcraft at Lowest Subscriber Count Since 2006
Maybe it's finally time to think about Warcraft 4?
09.08.15 - 1:23 PM

World of Warcraft is one of those video games that will never truly die. It has been a part of millions of people's lives for so long and there will always be a hardcore group of fans that stick with it but recently, it's been seeing massive declines in subscribers.

The latest quarterly report from Activision Blizzard reflected only 5.6 million subscribers; the last time numbers were this low was 2006.

It's 2015, 10 years after World of Warcraft modestly hit the scene. WoW was on a steady climb in subscribers from launch all the way into 2012 when it peaked at 12 million. Since 2012, the subscriptions have been trending down.

The Warlords of Draenor expansion released in late 2014 and brought about a major graphical enhancement to the entire game which seemed to entice a lot of players back but they didn't stick around for long. The Draenor high of 10 million quickly fell all the way down to the current 5.6 million in only 6 months.

Blizzard is not completely discouraged by this massive dropoff. They have promised to release larger updates and expansions on a more regular schedule to keep subscribers interested in the world.

World of Warcraft Draenor

The latest expansion, Legion , is looking to earn some Warcraft 3 nostalgia and hopefully win back some of those older fans.

World of Warcraft will stick around for the foreseeable future but the world may start to feel lonelier and lonelier.
