Mass Effect's Lead Writer Drew Karpyshyn Returns to BioWareBut what project is he working on?10.03.15 - 6:47 PM
Drew Karpyshyn, the lead writer on the first Mass Effect
, has returned to BioWare. He had left the studio a few years ago to focus on writing his series of Chaos Born novels.
Karpyshyn's long list of credits include being the lead writer of Mass Effect, the co-lead writer on Mass Effect 2, as well as writing credits on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and a bunch of other BioWare titles. While Karpyshyn left BioWare in 2012, it was made clear that he was not severing ties with his former employers. To announce his return, Karpryshyn took to his blog writing: "A few years ago I left BioWare to focus on my Chaos Born novels, but now that the trilogy is finished, Iíve decided to come back into the fold."
Karpyshyn did not reveal what title he will be working on, but acknowledged that his efforts will be on an already announced project rather than a completely unknown game writing: "I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. The short answer: no. I originally came to the Austin studio many years ago to work on SWTOR and Ė at least for now Ė thatís what Iím focusing on again."
BioWare is working on a new entry in the Mass Effect series, named Mass Effect Andromeda. With his extensive experience writing for that universe, it would be fair to assume that Karpyshyn may end up involved. Whatever his next step may be, we will be sure to keep you posted!
