Divinity: Original Sin 2 Kickstarter Ends at Over 2 Million
With mod support, Game Master Mode, and Chris Avellone... oh my!
10.16.15 - 4:47 AM

The Kickstarter campaign for Larian Studios' Divinity: Original Sin 2 came to a close at the end of September, and did so with style. Raking in an impressive $2,032,434 (which doesn't include PayPal funding) from 42,713 backers, the campaign far exceeded the game's funding target of $500,000. And because of the kindness of many strangers, a few special stretch goals were reached in Divinity: Original Sin 2's final weeks of funding.

To the delight of PC gamers everywhere, Divinity: Original Sin 2 will include an editor that allows for full mod support. While mod support is indeed a crowd pleasing piece to the RPG puzzle that is Divinity: Original Sin 2 and something that fans want in all their favorite games, the ultimate (and last) stretch goal reached for Divinity: Original Sin 2 was Game Master Mode. Unlocked when funding hit 2 million, Game Master Mode allows players to create their own dungeons and then control them as friends play, placing enemies on the fly, toying with the environment and a slew of other cool concepts for co-op play. Needless to say, Divinity: Original Sin 2 got even more awesome with that final stretch goal.

If somehow reading all this hasn't excited you about the potential of this game, well... fine... but there was one other major announcement from Larian Studios about Divinity: Original Sin 2: the addition of Chris Avellone, founder of Obsidian Studios and a developer on Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment, to the game's writing team. Originally just dream fuel for fans, Avellone has agreed to write an origin story for the game, which is fantastic news to classic RPG fans. Check out the video below to see Chris say "Yes" to joining Divinity: Original Sin 2.

It is always great to see a talented studio receive this type of fan support, and if the sequel is anything like the original (sorry about that), we will have another stellar game from Larian Studios, and I cannot wait to play it.
