Final Fantasy XV's Development Team Answers the Burning Questions
Monster-riding, battle gambits, oh my!
11.22.15 - 7:18 PM

The development team behind Final Fantasy XV has been very liberal with answering questions online, as of late. They've been seen on Twitter and the Final Fantasy XV'sofficial forum answering on-the-spot questions with responses that turned out to be pretty revealing.

When several people wanted to know about if and how monster-riding was going to work (something that was shown in the original 2013 E3 trailer for the game), lead game designer and combat planner Yuji Kenichiro took to the web. "There is a gameplay mechanic where you can debilitate enemies by destroying parts of their anatomy and it plays an important role in battle. It is possible to make these kinds of attacks against specific areas on gigantic monsters by either striking them directly using the warp ability or by positioning yourself by the enemy’s vulnerable spots using parrying actions against their attacks." That's not exactly a direct answer but it definitely sounds intriguing.

This car may not be the only thing our heroes ride into battle.

Future players also wanted to know more about the battle system, specifically if there was a plan to implement a gambit-system a la Final Fantasy XII. Lead game designer and AI programmer took this question. "We have created a system for FFXV where the player can decide the battle style that they and their comrades use, although this takes a different form to the gambits in FFXII. This will be revealed at some point in the future so look out for further information."

Final Fantasy XV is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in 2016.
