New Footage of Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Shows Boss Battles and Battle Actions
Plus, it sounds like Lost Song sold pretty well.
02.03.16 - 1:35 AM

It seems that the recent video game based on the popular Sword Art Online anime, Sword Art Online: Lost Song, did pretty well when it came westward last year, with a total of 150,000 copies sold between North America and Europe.

According to producer Yosuke Futami, by examining social media such as Facebook and Twitter, you would find that Lost Song was recieved "mostly favorably, but Re: Hollow Fragment seems to be more popular, probably because there are a lot of users overseas that like RPGs. However, Lost Song did 100,000 units in North America, and even in Europe it sold about 50,000 units, so I have no objections."

Futami also took the opportunity to talk about the upcoming Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization game coming to the PlayStation 4 and Vita, which is also getting a Western release in 2016. "Something particular to Hollow Realization is the 'support cry system,' though that's a temporary name. This is a system where, not only does the player praise other characters, but other characters praise the player. For example, when you attack an enemy with a cooperative attack, Asuna, Lisbeth, and Silica will attack, and they’ll trust Kirito (the player) to deliver the finishing blow. But once you deliver that attack, everyone will praise you like, 'You're amazing!'" Futami also revealed that a character from the original Sword Art Online novel who has never appeared in the video games will be in Hollow Realization, but "it's not a character attached to the letters 'a' or 'yu,'" asking fans to "please understand," so I'm guessing this is of some interest to Sword Art Online fans and not those of us who have yet to finish the series (I really should get on that...).

Futami did clarify an earlier comment about Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization being only 10% done, stating that this was more of a general indication of the development process and that the game's visuals aren't going to evolve drastically from what we've seen. Still, if you check out our freshly updated gallery, you can see some screenshots that provide a closer look at the game's environments and HUD. There are also a pair of new gameplay videos, highlighting the various actions players can perform in battle and some footage from a boss battle, which you can watch below.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization will be out for PlayStation 4 and Vita in Japan, North America, and Europe sometime later this year.
