First Look at DONTNOD's VampyrHunt? Heal? It's your choice.03.07.16 - 9:01 PM
French developer DONTNOD Entertainment first made a name for itself with the Capcom-published Remember Me
, and more recently (and within our coverage at RPGFan), the acclaimed graphic adventure Life is Strange
, published by Square Enix.
The publisher of their next title will be Focus Home Entertainment, who recently revealed DONTNOD's new title: Vampyr. As you can partially infer from the first screenshots, Vampyr is set in 1918 London. You're placed in control of a doctor-turned-vampyr as the Spanish Flu tears through the city.
Vampyr promises a strong narrative, and a changing world based on your choices. As the undead, you need to feed to survive, but killing a character means they're forever gone, which can affect the world around you. And while you can, as a former doctor, craft medicine to instead heal your would-be victims, feeding not only keeps you "living," but can grant you new powers. It sounds like a game filled with tough choices.
When feeding or charming your way out of a situation isn't an option, Vampyr will have a melee-centric real time combat system, accented by supernatural abilities. Defeated enemies can drop loot and materials used in crafting a variety of tools, melee weapons, and ammo with a variety of affinities that exploit enemy weaknesses.
