Hajime Tabata Talks Game Length, Structure, and DLC Plans for Final Fantasy XVIt won't all be aimless faffing about in an open world.08.30.16 - 3:36 AM
In a recent interview with Famitsu magazine, Final Fantasy XV
director Hajime Tabata gave some new tidbits of information about the highly anticipated game, including answering some questions about Square Enix's DLC plans and the structure of the game. Evidently, it seems as though the previously announced Season Pass
doesn't represent the entire scope and width of the game's planned DLC.
"Those are what we've announced today, something we've decided that we'll certainly do," says Tabata. "If we decide to make downloadable content outside of the Season Pass we're currently selling, then that will be the case. Although there's a lot right now that isn't clear." Right now, it seems that additional DLC plans would include extra costumes and recipes, although the team is currently focused on polishing the main game. Tabata also clarified that "Episode Prompto" will be separate from the VR demo shown at E3 2016, and that additional VR content will also be different from the Season Pass episodes.
The other interesting thing Tabata shared in the interview regards Final Fantasy XV's structure and design. "The first half is a continuous open world, but the second half is story-driven and progresses linearly. By doing this, the entire game is tightened so that the open world doesn't get tiring, and so that you can also get a taste of traditional Final Fantasy progression." This may alleviate some concerns that Final Fantasy XV would adhere too closely to an open-world structure at the expense of a strong narrative. According to Tabata, the game will take about 40-50 hours to complete if the player sticks to the main path.
