Dragon Quest XI Gets 2017 Launch in Japan, Along With New Gameplay Footage and More

Square Enix revealed a great deal of information about Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time at Jump Fiesta 2017, including the game's opening movie, some gameplay footage, and new artwork, along with a release window of 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS (no word of the rumored Nintendo Switch version). Series creator Yuji Horii came onstage at Jump Fiesta alongside producer Yosuke Saito and director Takeshi Uchikawa to introduce the title.

The protagonist of Dragon Quest XI is a young man from the village of Ishi, with his adventure beginning on the day he turns 16. He is accompanied by the thief Camus (no, not that one!), who is described as "a reliable partner" who has a warm heart and strong sense of duty, despite his brash exterior. He serves as a guide to the novice protagonist.

Dragon Quest XI takes place in the city of Lotozetasia, which has a World Tree at its center. It is a vast world that won't "betray the expectations" of players. Familiar gameplay elements such as the Casino and "Puff-Puff" minigames are set to return, while the 3DS and PS4 versions will each have unique features that take advantage of their capabilities, such as Streetpass functionality.

There's also quite a bit of new footage below, which includes the game's opening movie, gameplay for both versions of the game, and the entire stage event for those who are so inclined.
