Square Enix surprised most of us last August when it announced the 3D remake of the Super Nintendo classic Secret of Mana. With a 3D art style reminiscent of the surprisingly-enjoyable Adventures of Mana, this new edition of the 1993 classic also features a newly-arranged soundtrack (you can also switch to the original), new "interlude" story sequences that expand the narrative, and gameplay/quality of life updates like shortcuts, autosave, and, blessedly, improved AI controls that hopefully mean Primm won't get stuck on mushrooms in the forest this time.

Secret of Mana Remake Ice Country PS4

Like the original, the remake offers 3-player multiplayer, though local-only. Join me in hoping an online option may get added one day!

Secret of Mana is available today for $39.99 USD on PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and Steam, in digital formats. The PS4 edition is also available as a physical release, exclusively sold through GameStop (US), EB Games (Canada), and participating retailers in Latin America.

We'll have a review soon, so in the meantime, check out the game's launch trailer:
