Baten Kaitos 3 was Canceled, but Could Return Based on DemandIf you want a third entry, tell Monolith Soft and Bandai Namco!09.25.18 - 7:36 PM
Baten Kaitos is a less known series by Monolith Soft, but its card-based battle system and beautiful world breathed life into two games. A decade has passed since the last game, Baten Kaitos Origins, released on the Nintendo Gamecube, and original art director Yasuyuki Honne has not forgotten.
According to a Tweet he made, Baten Kaitos 3 was a reality at some point. Pre-production had started but it was canceled.
However, Yasuyuki Honne isn't against returning to the series. However, just like with Xenosaga, the IP for Baten Kaitos is still owned by Bandai Namco. With that said, both Monolith Soft and Bandai Namco would need to be on board for a new entry in the series.
Here is Yasuyuki Honne's full tweet, translated by Siliconera:
It's been 10 years since the release of Baten Kaitos 2 (Baten Kaitos Origins) and it pains me to continue getting requests for a sequel. Since enough time has gone by I think it's okay to talk about it a bit. Right after the release of Baten Kaitos 2, I was working on a sequel at Namco (now Bandai Namco) and we were onto pre-productions, however before Baten Kaitos 3 could become a reality, talk between involved parties ended due to circumstances.
Had we released the game, it would've been something grand, and would take you to the bottom of the seas, the earth, and the sky. Bandai Namco still has a lot of my plan work thatís been sealed away. For those of you requesting a sequel, donít just ask Monolith Soft and myself, but Bandai Namco as well.
Both games in the series, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins, released on the Nintendo Gamecube. You can check out our original reviews below. We will keep you updated in case we do hear about a Baten Kaitos revival!
