Coming This Week, 1/14/19
A fan-favorite series rises from the dead.
01.14.19 - 6:52 PM

Welcome, dear reader, to another installment of Coming This Week. 2019's release schedule is heating up, with a number of exciting releases to talk about. These include a dive into Gun Gale Online, the return of a beloved series with an uncertain future, and more. Let's get started.

Smoke and Sacrifice - PS4, XB1 (January 15th)

We've talked about this one on Coming this Week before: the survival/RPG hybrid Smoke and Sacrifice came out on Switch last May. Well, now it's the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's time to shine. In the game, players follow Sachi, a mother who has lost her son and embarks on a dark and mysterious quest.

The saga of Telltale Games' closure has been arduous, leaving many employees without jobs and with the future of their beloved properties in limbo. Skybound Games, an extension of the current publisher behind the Walking Dead comics, stepped in to help finish The Walking Dead: The Final Season with a new studio comprised of Telltale vets helping to bring the saga to a close. Episode three, Broken Toys, will be out this week, and I couldn't be happier. Welcome back, Clementine.

YIIK: A Postmodern RPG - PS4, Vita, Switch, PC (January 17th)

This one has been a long time coming! Coming to us from Ackk Studios and Ysbryd Games, YIIK: A Postmodern RPG is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: a Japanese-style RPG that brings to mind fond memories of classics like Earthbound. This indie title has been in development for several years, but will finally grace the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms this Thursday.

Also out this Thursday is the Nintendo Switch port of Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force, a JRPG from Idea Factory. This Switch port comes loaded with all of the downloadable content from the PlayStation 4 release, and will be available at a nifty discount on the eShop around launch. Sounds like a perfect time to dive in!

Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet Screenshot

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet — Complete Edition - PS4, XB1, PC (January 18th)

Last, but not least, this Friday marks the release of the Complete Edition for Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, as well as the accompanying release of the game's final piece of DLC, Dissonance of the Nexus. Players who haven't yet ventured into the cutthroat world of Gun Gale Online can do so now with all of the game's content readily available.

And that's a wrap for this week! We're off to a strong start for 2019, and the year shows no sign of slowing down. As always, stay tuned to RPGFan for the latest and greatest RPG news, and I'll see you next week.
