Coming This Week, 2/4/19Enter the labyrinth once more.02.04.19 - 10:54 PM
Greetings, all, and welcome to the latest installment of Coming This Week. This week features the final entry in a certain maze-related series on the Nintendo 3DS, a system which has seen many phenomenal RPGs over the course of its life. Gamers will also have the opportunity to hunt vicious beasts, collect adorable critters, and take a walk down memory lane. Let's get started.
Atlus' Etrian Odyssey series first appeared on the original DS, but found newfound life on its three-dimensional big brother. Between Etrian Odyssey IV and V, two remakes, and adjacent titles like Persona Q, it's been a long and adventurous road for the franchise. Now, Etrian Odyssey Nexus is set to bring players out on one last grand venture this Tuesday.
Here's the chance to grab yet another quality graphic adventure on the Switch. The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 builds strongly off its predecessor and offers beautiful environments and some strong characters, with their...tales...beginning independently and becoming more intertwined as the story goes on. Exploring an environment like Aventásia while enjoying amusing writing seems like the perfect reason to check it out. We followed this title closely before with a full review to check out.
Evoland is an interesting pair of games that offer a walk through the history of role-playing video games, with the graphical style and even the genre of game you're playing changing as you progress. Both of these titles made waves on PC, and now they're coming to consoles as part of the Evoland: Legendary Edition bundle. The release dates for this bundle are staggered, with PlayStation 4 receiving it first, followed by the Nintendo Switch, and finally Xbox One.
For those in need of something Souls-like, the well-received Salt and Sanctuary is making its way to the Xbox One on Wednesday. Featuring a robust character progression system paired with a little bit of platforming action, this game ends up being an unique experience. You know it's time for some island adventure, and Robert Fenner's review of the PS4 version won't steer you wrong if you want more information.
Step into the (gum?)shoes of elite detective Daniel Lazarski, an Observer who enters the minds of suspects and witnesses to solve crimes, as Observer releases on the Switch this week. Follow leads through a cyberpunk apartment building after Daniel gets a letter from his missing son; the game even includes some stealth as the chase becomes more intense. We reviewed this one last year, so please do take a look.
Savor the hunt! The God Eater franchise has always been an interesting footnote in the hunting genre, with its visually striking monster designs and... shall we say busy anime aesthetic. God Eater 3 promises to be the grandest God Eater game yet, with more impressive Aragami beasts to slay and even bigger weapons with which to accomplish this. The game hits PS4 and PC this Friday.
Hey, remember Yo-kai Watch? Level-5's own spin on the monster catching genre once took Japan by storm as a legitimate contender for Pokémon's throne. While its popularity has waned somewhat over the years, the series is still trucking along, with the third and final 3DS entry coming westward this Friday. Hopefully if this sells enough, we'll be hearing something about a localization of that promising-looking Switch entry as well.
And that's a wrap for this week, folks! As always, stay tuned to RPGFan for the latest and greatest RPG coverage, and we'll see you in the next one.
