SEGA has announced a brand new mainline entry in the Yakuza series which will be released in Japan on January 16th, 2020, with a Western release planned for later in 2020. Yakuza 7 (likely to be titled Yakuza: Like A Dragon in the West) will hit the PlayStation 4 with plenty of firsts for the series in tow. You can take a look at the Japanese teaser trailer below to get a first look at some of the game's characters.

Taking over the spotlight from longtime hero Kazuma Kiryu, whose story concluded in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, newcomer Kasuga Ichiban takes a fall for his boss, Masumi Arakawa, serving a nearly twenty-year jail sentence for a crime he didn't commit. Expecting a warm welcome upon his release, Kasuga emerges to find that he's far from the made man he had expected to become.

After confronting the man who set him up, Kasuga awakens in Yokohama, a new locale for the series, which developers boast is around three times the size of Kamurocho. Additionally, it was revealed during a recent press conference that Yakuza 7 will forgo the series' signature action-based combat in favor of a turn-based system which wouldn't be out of place in a Dragon Quest game — a series which Kasuga happens to love.

According to Yakua series producer Daisuke Sato on Twitter , more news will be revealed during Tokyo Game Show, which means that there's plenty more news on the way in the coming weeks.

Gematsu has a trailer with English subtitles, as there were brief mentions this morning of the Western title, but all mentions of "Yakuza: Like A Dragon" were quickly deleted, and the English website is not working as of this writing. It's possible the Western release info was published by accident and we will get official confirmation soon.

In the meantime, be sure to check out the game's official Japanese site, our brand-new gallery, and stay tuned to RPGFan.
