Developer Team Ninja and publisher Sony Entertainment have unveiled a new story trailer and post-launch DLC plans for the upcoming Nioh 2, the sequel to the 2017-released samurai action-RPG Nioh. The trailer itself showcases some of the situations that players will be facing, as well as a few unknown faces that they may come to know on their adventure through rural Japan. Check it out below!

Players will take on the role of Hideyoshi, a yokai hunter who is both part fiend and part human, during the year 1555 whilst they explore and journey across rural Japan. Tom Lee, Team Ninja's creative director, deepened the scope of the plot, via the official PlayStation Blog. Lee stated that the narrative itself would revolve around the idea of a core catalyst in Hideyoshi as "...one day as our protagonist loses control of their own yokai power while battling against a ferocious fiend." Within that tense situation, aid is given "...by a wandering merchant by the name of Toukichiro who sells strange "Spirit Stones"; magic—imbued artifacts that can help the wielder communicate with yokai spirits..." wherein Hideyoshi, calming their demonic passenger, and Toukichiro join forces to find more of the Spirit Stones, eventually joined by Mumyo, "...a yokai huntswoman...", and adventure at the behest of notable historical figure Oda Nobunaga and whatever horizons lay beyond.

Lee also detailed the post-launch DLC plans for Nioh 2, taking the form of three paid content updates, with each of the three releases focusing on a different storyline set before the events of Nioh 2. Each update will also include new weapons, combat abilities and characters that will integrate into the mission and upgrade flow of Nioh 2 at large. The three content updates will be included in Nioh 2's Season Pass, which will be included in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, as well as various armor and weapon choices at launch. The Digital Deluxe Edition of the game can be pre-ordered now, via the PlayStation Store.

All in all, it seems that Nioh 2 is poised to be a worthy successor to its predecessor, with all the demon battling, exploring, and historic fictions that a player could want. As a fan of the Warring States period, I'm curious as to how Oda Nobunaga fits into the grand scheme of things and will be waiting in line to pick up my copy to resolve that particular question post-haste! Nioh 2 is set to release worldwide on March 13th, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
