Review: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an Excellent Celebration of Dragon Ball Z, but the Gameplay is Far From Super Saiyan

A fusion of Dragon Ball Z and RPG should be perfect, right?

It's fair to say that Dragon Ball is no stranger to video game adaptations. 2020's first big new RPG, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, is a little different from most, however. It's a retelling of the Dragon Ball Z manga and anime, sure, but it's an action RPG with exploration elements, and by far one of the most faithful and detailed retellings of the four main sagas (Saiyan, Frieza, Cell and Buu) we've ever had.

Kakarot is a treat for DBZ fans, but there's also a lot of baggage that doesn't need to be there. If you can get past the repetition, you might just fall in love with the game. I came out of the other side feeling mixed. While I loved a lot about it, I was disappointed with some aspects.
