Shining Wisdom

Publisher: Working Designs Developer: Sega

Story: 97% Overall: 93%

Story:
Once, long ago, a fearsome giant known as the "Dark Titan" rose from the abyss and nearly destroyed all Palacia before being bound by magic. Now, the Black Elf Pazort is scheming to rule the world by returning the Dark Titan. You play as Mars, the son of the legendary warrior Jiles, who begins his service in the King's guard at Castle Odegan. Guide him through challenging dungeons, bewildering puzzles in his struggle to seal the four "Elementals" that can power Pazort's scheme. A strong plot, I give it a 97%

Graphics:
The graphics of the CG clips are promising, with those cute SD characters. As for the game play graphics…one of the things I could say is that the landscapes aren't as textured as most Rag's are/should be. The character design is excellent. They're colorful, detailed, and beautifully rendered. The monsters are wonderful with a high variety of the enemies. Everything moves smoothly. No glitches to make you walk through a wall or suddenly appear on a higher platform. I give graphics a 91%.

Sound:
This is what I like about the game. Each track definitely fits the dungeon's mood. In a way, it's like you're listening to MIDI music the whole time, but with more quality and some beat to it. The load game music is sweet. It brings character into the fairy, and it's quite peaceful. The music is really something, but it could be better...it's not exactly an orchestral hit. The sounds you hear as the character talk (which supposedly is their voices) can get on your nerves. It's nothing but beep after beep after beep. I give sound a 95%.

Control:
This is something. You have all these buttons and almost every one of 'em but 2 have a different function. When you want to turn around, most of the time (and maybe all of the time) you have to hold onto the direction in wish you want to turn. Otherwise, you end up moving like a millimeter. When you're running, it can be hard to maneuver. When you want to turn left you still go straight in some mad-dash. I give control an 89%.

Game Play:
The game play is great. It was a very lengthy game. Shining Wisdom can be very addictive the first time through. It has a rather large world...this is great for when you're exploring for the many secret items/orbs throughout the game. And the puzzles and dungeons are mind-boggling, which leave you sitting on your butt for like half an hour or longer just to figure out what "this" does. This game is quite challenging. And can really keep you busy, but you lose interest when you play it for the second time. Yep, it has a low replay value. I give game play a 95%.

Overall:
You can live without it, but in a sense it's a must buy- 93%
