RPGFan's policy on reviewing the instrumental FF singles is that we normally do not do it because they are usually obscure, unheard of, and consist of music found on the complete OST that the single is released under. Final Fantasy's singles as of now include Final Fantasy IV Minimum Album, Final Fantasy V +1, Final Fantasy V Mambo de Chocobo, Final Fantasy VI STARS Vol. 1, Final Fantasy VI STARS Vol. 2, Final Fantasy VI Special Tracks (this review), Final Fantasy VIII Eyes on Me, and Final Fantasy IX Melodies of Life. All of these singles have music found on other soundtracks, unless the music pertains to something outside of Final Fantasy (such as FFVIII's single, which has more vocal songs by Faye Wong). Most of the "unreleased" songs on the FF4-6 singles are found on Final Fantasy Mix...The songs that aren't are found on the Final Fantasy VI Special Tracks.

The FFVI Special Tracks are very neat. The first song is a vocal track (male vocals with a chorus for the chorus...), the music based on the the next track, "Town 2". This is some town music Uematsu wrote for FF6 but didn't make it on the game. Town 3 is another of this case. The next track is a beautiful (but still synth) remix of FFIV's "Troian Beauty." And then, the last track is a Karaoke version of the first track. The track I left out is THE BEST version of this over-done song I have ever heard.

"Techno de Chocobo (another mix)" has to be the best Chocobo song I've ever heard. It starts out sounding...mediocre at best. But about half-way through the track, something changes. The beat is different, the background synth is different, and a live piano is thrown in. This makes for the best Chocobo song to date. I implore you to check out the sample for this.

This CD cannot be found on any online store, but it goes up on eBay every now and then and sells for around $30 each time...Pretty pricy for 20 minutes, but I say it's worth it.
