This two-disc set collects the soundtracks for the first two Playstation Nobunaga's Ambition games, composed by Kousuke Yamashita, and a remastered reprint of Yoko Kanno's arranged soundtracks for Haouden and Bushoufuunroku; a blessing for those who missed these CD's on their initial printing (basically everyone).

Much like Haouden, Bushoufuunroku interweaves a classical orchestral style with traditional Japanese instrumentation augmented by synth. There are some interesting arrangement approaches on this album whose potential Kanno has strangely never mined in later scores, notably the brief but fierce solo electric violin scratching and plucking of "Flame of the Battlefield" and the piano and strings ensemble jazz dialogue in "The Wicked Gods Vol. 2." As a very early score, her style here lacks the rich development and grandeur found in her later Koei and anime work, with simpler orchestral textures and generally shorter, less developed melodies. The music, however, is still inimicably Kanno, full of interesting and adventurous ideas among the best the music of games have ever offered, and gives us a look into the germination of the Kanno sound. Packaged together with Haouden, it's an invaluable disc.

One unfortunate note is the cutting of one track, the ending vocal, from the original Bushoufuunroku album due to lack of space on the Kanno CD (although they could have fit it on the Yamashita CD, the fools!). The music of Reppuden and Shouseiroku is on the conventional side, full of brief, rather uninspired militarisms. It's a decent bonus, but not noteworthy by itself.
