Total Time:

"Spectral Gene" is a gaiden title in Idea Factory's "Spectral" series. The soundtrack was composed entirely by Mr. Yuki Sugiura, who is a part of the band "Heinrich von Ofterdingen." Alongside vocalist "miqui," Sugiura and his band recorded a number of tracks for the OST as well.

Strung together in their present order, the OST strikes a balance between fast-tempo guitar-centric grunge, ambient synth/techno, and traditional VGM-style melodic music. There is an equal amount of these three "types" of music scattered throughout the soundtrack. Sugiura-san did an excellent job, not just with the composition, but with the track order as well.

In determining whether or not to purchase the album, it's important to determine whether or not you like the Heinrich von Ofterdingen sound/style. Tracks 5, 14, and 27 feature miqui's vocal performances, which are quite varied in style. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, then this soundtrack is definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Of all the Idea Factory soundtracks I've heard, from Kenji Kaneko and others, I think I was most surprised by this one because of the diversity. Yuki Sugiura is a member of a band, but he also composed some decent synth tunes for this Strategy RPG. I look forward to hearing more soundtracks like these from Idea Factory in the future.
