In 2008 Atlus USA released a 50-some track PSP OST for Yggdra Union. It was North America exclusive. I was psyched about that.

In 2010, the Japanese publishers saw fit to change that with an official, retail release of the Yggdra Union PSP OST. This one has 60-some tracks. It's even *more* complete. Great. One more thing to add to the collection, right?

But why am I complaining? Atlus USA's print was promotional. This is widely available. People deserve the opportunity to hear Yggdra Union in all its glory. The PSP version is 10 times better than GBA, and 5 times better than the synth-upgrade version on the old GBA OST. So yeah... I think I will stop complaining.

For those unfamiliar with the Dept Heaven series soundtracks from Shigeki Hayashi and Minako Adachi, this music is sure to be a breath of fresh air. For those deeply familiar, they'll recognize this as some of the best, if not THE best, in the whole series.

The style is like a super-listener-friendly mix of Sakuraba and Sakimoto. On one hand, you have harp glissandos and mid-to-high-pitched woodwinds everywhere. On the other hand, prog rock dominates the battle themes. It's a good, and clever, mix of music.

In simple terms: 4 out of 5, highly recommended, proponents of "VGM for VGM fans" will eat this album up.
