My relationship with video games started with a small Compaq computer in the early 90s and a game called Wolfenstein 3D: that was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. After a brief love affair with the SNES, my brother was given a PlayStation in 1997, and for Christmas a few years later in 2000 my mother gave me a game that changed my life: Final Fantasy IX.
The characters were dynamic, the combat was tactical and different than anything I had played before, the story epic and nuanced, and there was a world waiting to be explored. The game's scope was stunning, and it did not take long for me to know that this mythical thing called the "RPG" was going to be integral to my life going forward.
Exploring worlds: that still stands out to me to this day. Whether it is contemporary Japan, a mythical realm, or a universe created from scratch, the joy of exploring and discovering the details of a game world have never left me. That joy is what led me to this site years ago when I started collecting games with a focus on RPGs; and it led me to work for this site.
Outside of gaming, I am an actor in NYC trying to make it and all that (and you better believe Voice Over is part of that... I mean how cool would it be to be in a game after years of living in them right?). It still stuns me how the actions we take in a digital world can help shape who we are in our day to day life, I mean hey, it brought me here. If anyone ever wants to talk games, Voice Acting, film, collecting (games, vinyl, comics, whatever interests you) just drop me a line. I can't wait to start adding to the community.
Hello, my name is Chris Gebauer, a Contributing News Editor for the site, and I am an RPGFan.
