Developer Ys Net and publisher Deep Silver have confirmed the first paid downloadable content update to the recently released Shenmue III, known as ‘Battle Rally’, set to release on January 21st (today!).
‘Battle Rally’, by way of Deep Silver, offers a unique racing course, set within the world of Shenmue III, where contestants will fight head-to-head across the length of the course, while they fight to maintain a lead to victory in the pursuit of powerful items. Players will also get the opportunity to step into the role of another protagonist from the Shenmue series, that of treasure-seeker, Wuying Ren, or Ryo’s sparring partner, Wei Zhen.
The DLC itself can be purchased via the PlayStation Store and the Epic Game Store. Players who have purchased the ‘Complete DLC Collection’ edition of Shenmue III will gain automatic access to ‘Battle Rally’ once it launches. The content itself will retail for $7.99 (USD) and equivalent pricing in other regions.
As it stands, the universe of Shenmue III continues to deepen after its lengthy absence and legacy within the sphere of gaming, and I find nothing but admiration in that pursuit.
