Support for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Is Coming to An End

It’s been a long, strange road for Dissidia Final Fantasy’s modern incarnation. After a moderately successful run in Japanese arcades, the RPG/fighting game hybrid came to consoles worldwide as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, where it got… well, shall we say a mixed reception. Nevertheless, Square Enix continued supporting the game for quite some time, releasing new characters and content updates on a frequent basis.

That’s all coming to an end, however. As of this writing, ongoing support for the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy has ceased, and the final update for the NT version will be arriving on March 5th. According to producer Ichiro Hazama, online play functionality for the game will continue for the foreseeable future, but will at some point end as well, although he stressed that players will be given a heads up before the service ends. Additionally, the game’s director, Takeo Kujiraoka, has stated that there are currently no plans within Square Enix for another Dissidia sequel.

The final update for Dissidia NT will add two costumes to the game, for The Emperor and the Cloud of Darkness, as well as some balance updates.
