Coming This Week, 4/26/20

Greetings, dear reader, and welcome back to Coming This Week with RPGFan. As always, we hope you’re staying healthy during these difficult times. As the weather improves, I understand the desire to go outside, but please be mindful and keep up the social distancing for the time being! If you need an excuse to ignore your friends and family and play video games instead, here are the latest game releases headed our way.

Sakura Wars – April 28th (PS4)

The latest entry in the long-running Sakura Wars series is making its way Westward on Tuesday! Sakura Wars is something of a soft reboot of the series: no numbers or subtitles to be found here, and it’s more of an action RPG instead of strategy RPG as prior games were. Plus, some of the character designs are by none other than Tite Kubo, the creator of Bleach! It looks like a good time, and we’ll have a full review out soon enough. In the meantime, be sure to read our hands-on preview from Nathan Lee!

Dread Nautical – April 29th (Switch)

Dread Nautical is a freaky little tactical role-playing game that takes place on a cruiseliner under attack from supernatural forces. Players will need to keep their wits about them and engage in turn-based battles, all while managing the resources and mental state of their characters. It definitely looks like an interesting game for fans of this particular subgenre, so give it a look if it sounds like your bag!

Zoria: Age of Shattering Prologue – April 30th (Windows, Linux)

From Tiny Trinket Games, we have Zoria: Age of Shattering Prologue. The game is a party-based RPG with a top-down perspective, and is designed to introduce players to the world of Zoria. The Prologue is just a taste of the full adventure to come, so this is definitely one to keep an eye on!

Celestian Tales: Realms Beyond – April 30th (Windows)

Celestian Tales is a series of indie role-playing games from Ekuator Games and Agate. This latest entry in the series, Realms Beyond, is a stand-alone story that doesn’t require foreknowledge of its predecessors. This is a colorful RPG with a morally grey story and a unique art style, and will be hitting Windows PCs on April 30th.

Book of Demons – April 30th (Switch)

Book of Demons is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Drawing inspiration from classics like Diablo, this game is an exciting action RPG with procedurally-generated levels. Book of Demons launched on PC a couple of years back, and we have a review from the illustrious Bob Richardson, so if you’d like to know more about this devilish adventure, give it a read!

Arcade Spirits – May 1st (Switch)

Lastly, we have another Switch port of a visual novel. Arcade Spirits is no ordinary visual novel, however. This game is themed around retro video games and the culture surrounding them, featuring an eclectic set of characters to match the neon aesthetic. You have the option to befriend or romance your chosen bachelor or bachelorette, which is a nice option to have! Be sure to read Alana’s review of the original release to learn more.

And that’s about it for this week! As always, keep checking RPGFan for more of your favorite video game coverage. We’ll see you next time!
