Final Fantasy VII Remake Sales Hit 5 Million

As one of 2020’s most anticipated releases, Final Fantasy VII Remake was always going to sell well, but today Square Enix announced that their monolithic title has sold 5 million units worldwide. This includes both shipments and digital sales. That’s a lot of games sold in just under four months!

But that’s not all: Square Enix also confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is their biggest-selling digital title on any PlayStation platform. Considering the number of games they’ve launched over the digital era, including rereleases, this is pretty fantastic news. Remake has certainly captured the hearts of many across the globe, whether it’s those who played the original on the PS1, or those who’ve never ventured inside Midgar before.

We already know that Part 2 is in development, but we don’t know when that’s coming, so this first chapter is sure to sell a lot more copies in the meantime. We were among the positive voices on the game, so if you’re still on the fence, you should read (or watch!) my review of Final Fantasy VII Remake before picking it up. It’s on sale on the PlayStation Store until August 19th, so you better get a mosey on if you’re interested!

Alana was with RPGFan for nearly seven years and did a little bit of everything, but writing is her passion. A lover of baking and animals (especially dogs and reptiles), she apparently has a pretty cute accent. If you talk to her about Skies of Arcadia, you've made a friend for life.

Terrific game. The wait for the next installment will be a painful one.
