The latest trailer for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 leans in hard on the game’s most memorable celebrity cameo. Keanu Reeves, who portrays the character of Johnny Silverhand in the game, features heavily in this brief commercial that first aired during game 1 of this year’s NBA finals. You can give it a watch below.
In associated news, CD Projekt Red has recently come under fire for seemingly reneging on a promise made to its employees that the company would avoid mandatory crunch and overtime. In an article for Bloomberg, Jason Schreier reported that CD Projekt Red was gearing up for a period of mandatory six-day work weeks in the leadup to Cyberpunk 2077‘s November 19th release date. This directly contradicts statements that were made to Kotaku in 2019, and the executives at CD Projekt Red seem to be aware of this discrepancy, with studio head Adam Badowski stating that he would “take it upon myself to receive the full backlash for the decision.”
The overtime will be paid, at the very least, in accordance with Polish labor laws. You can read the full article, linked above, for more details. For my part, whether or not you agree with CD Projekt Red’s decision to impose crunch as Cyberpunk 2077‘s release date looms, I feel it is important to remember that the games we love aren’t made in a vacuum. They’re made by people like you or I, who shouldn’t be made to suffer in order to deliver an entertainment product on time.
