Bravely Default II (not to be confused with Bravely Second: End Layer, which is a totally different sequel, and no, I will never let that go) will be headed to the Nintendo Switch next February. Square Enix recently released more information on the highly anticipated title, shedding some more light on its story and characters.

The saga begins when our hero Seth, a young sailor, washes up on the shore of one of Excillant’s five kingdoms. Here, he meets Gloria of Musa, a princess who fled her kingdom when it was destroyed by evil forces bent on stealing its Crystals. He also encounters Elvis and Adelle, two travelers determined to decipher a mysterious and magical book. Guided by fate, it’s up to you to stop the forces that threaten these heroes and all of Excillant.

Once again, four heroes will take up arms to defend the land. First up is Seth, the protagonist and a sailor who washes up on the shore of Excillant. Once there, he meets Gloria, and the two of them set off on a journey to find her kingdom’s stolen Crystals.

Gloria is the princess of Musa, whose country was doomed to ruin when its Crystals were stolen. Gloria escaped and went into hiding, but now journeys alongside Seth to reclaim what is hers.

Elvis Lazlow is our next party member. He is a traveling scholar, seeking to decipher a book left behind by his former master.

Last up is Adelle Ein. She is a mercenary who accompanies Elvis on his quest as his guardian.

Bravely Default II takes place on the continent of Excillant. According to Square, this setting is an “orthodox” evolution for the Bravely series, and allows the series’ trademark “miniature garden” aesthetic to life. The player will explore various lands across Excillant, including the Country of Spring Breeze, Halcionia, which we’ll go into more detail about… right now!

Halcionia is ruled over by Placido Halcionia, a master in the military arts who shelters Gloria after the fall of her kingdom. He is regarded by his subjects as a trustworthy and fair ruler. Gloria’s retainer, Sloane (also known as “the Blue Forest”) also resided in Halcionia, having escaped alongside her. A duo of mercenaries, Dag Rampage and Selene Noetic, also reside here. Dag is a single-minded individual who has a crush on Selene, but she isn’t interested and keeps his antics under control.

Once again, the Brave and Default command systems return, allowing players to rack up additional turns in battle. Characters are also able to have both a main job and a “sub job,” allowing them to master multiple character classes and utilize unique combinations. By defeating the asterisk holders throughout the land, new jobs will become available to the party.

Bravely Default II will release for the Nintendo Switch on February 26th, 2021. Stay tuned to RPGFan for more coverage!
