Chronos: Before The Ashes Details Its Gameplay & Story In New Trailer

The nameless protagonist looks out at the Labyrinth in Chronos: Before The Ashes

Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic have released a new overview trailer for their soon-to-be-released action RPG Chronos: Before The Ashes, detailing its gameplay, setting, and story. Set as a prequel to Remnant: From The Ashes, a third-person looter shooter, Chronos: Before The Ashes anchors itself in mysticism, where a nameless hero must explore a place known only as the Labyrinth, uncovering its myriad mysteries, fighting against enemies with both martial and magical might. Check out the full trailer below!

As seen above, Chronos: Before The Ashes anchors itself firmly within the methodical and careful combat born from games such as Dark Souls or its genre contemporaries. A wrinkle has seemingly been added to the formula, that of the conceit of death and age. With each death the nameless protagonist suffers, they age a single year, causing gameplay mechanics to skew and change with youth bringing martial agility and speed and the onset of old age bringing wisdom and stronger magical prowess.

Chronos: Before The Ashes seems to be something players looking for esoteric storytelling, non-traditional visuals, and measured combat to keep an eye on as it releases on December 1st, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC systems, and the Google Stadia.
