If you’ve never heard of Re:Zero, boy, do I have a Wikipedia rabbit hole for you.

To call this 2010s franchise prolific might just be an understatement. It’s the sort of cross-media success that many talented Japanese writers seek but few achieve. What began as a series of light novels has spawned manga adaptations, an ongoing anime, an internet radio show, best-selling soundtracks, and — indeed — video games. Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World: The Prophecy of the Throne aims to continue Spike Chunsoft’s tradition of strong storytelling with an intriguing blend of genres: visual novel and strategy RPG.

The new trailer combines dramatic music with memorable character introductions and the voice actor behind every role. It’s a snazzy way to deliver the information fans have been waiting for — that the cast of the anime’s English dub reprise their roles for the game. I wish the design team didn’t feel the need to pause on each woman’s chest for a couple of seconds along the way, but so it goes. Series creator Tappei Nagatsuki is on board as the lead writer, so The Prophecy of the Throne is bound to be compelling.

In addition to the new trailer, Spike Chunsoft kindly provided details on the digital pre-order perks for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Players on both systems can enjoy a 10% discount so long as they get their pre-orders in before launch; that’s January 29th in North America and February 5th in Europe. While the discount is the only incentive for Switch owners, those who grab the game for PS4 can also look forward to rocking an exclusive set of Re:ZERO profile avatars.
