File this directly under “wait, what?”
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, a game we reviewed twice way back in 2001 (reminder: this website’s been around since the dawn of time) is quite suddenly coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. Actually, the port released on Friday. Two days ago. As in, basically now.
Modern resolution of up to 4K is the only real bell-and-whistle, which helps to explain the near-complete lack of a marketing phase. But still, we’re talking about Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance here. A hack-and-slash classic that will surely feel like a blast from the past for a great many fans, myself included.
I reckon this welcome surprise might also help to build momentum for next month’s release of Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which will launch on June 22nd for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Windows — albeit without a co-op mode. But hey, you can now enjoy some sweet, sweet, old-school co-op courtesy of the original.
Go forth into the Western Heartlands of the fabled Sword Coast, my friends. Adventure awaits.
