Mortal Kombat’s Greg Russo To Lead Binge.com’s Live-Action System Shock Series

Binge System Shock Live Action Show

Greg Russo, screenwriter of the hit 2021 movie adaptation of Mortal Kombat, will be writing and directing the live-action System Shock series as an exclusive for Binge.com, an up-and-coming streaming platform for shows based on popular video games. In addition to those roles, he will serve as executive producer alongside Binge’s Chief Content Officer Allan Ungar, Nightdive Studios’ CEO Stephen Kick, and Director of Business Development Larry Kuperman. Nightdive is currently at work on a remake of the first System Shock, which is available for pre-order on Steam, Epic Game Store, and GOG and is due for release some time this year.

On being tapped to direct the series, Russo says he is “honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the fantastic team at Binge and Nightdive Studios to bring the iconic System Shock franchise to life.” He adds that he’s “been waiting for the right opportunity to make [his] directorial debut, and [he] finally found it.” Kick is bullish about its creative potential, saying he’s “always believed that a live-action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror.”

From my standpoint, 2022 is looking like a fantastic year for fans of this spooky “immersive sim“ franchise. Stay tuned to RPGFan to keep up with the latest news on the upcoming remake!
