Let’s Gawk at 28 Minutes of New Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising Gameplay

505 Games just put out an extensive 28-minute gameplay video for Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, a town-builder action RPG that will serve as a prelude to the much-anticipated Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Steven Takowsky, the franchise’s community manager, walks us through key plot details, features, and mechanics. Watch the footage below, courtesy of IGN.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the video:

  • Finishing Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising will net you special content in Hundred Heroes.
  • We find out more about the game’s principal cast. The protagonist CJ is trying to complete her scavenger (or treasure hunter, as they prefer to be called) family’s rite of passage, which brings her to the town of New Naveah. Her two playable companions are Isha, the settlement’s mayor in place of her missing father, and Garoo, a mercenary-turned-adventurer drawn to the treasure. He’s the kangaroo-looking fella, hence the name.
  • There’s plenty to level up, from the characters and their tools to the town itself (exciting!).
  • Navigating areas looks similar to Muramasa and Odin Sphere. There’s the option to fast travel throughout the game world and within dungeons using signposts.
  • Combat seems robust. CJ fights with a pickaxe, Isha launches magic projectiles, and Garoo swings a greatsword around. You can string together combos by switching characters on the fly. Let’s see if it’s speedier than it looks though; it comes off as a bit sluggish, but that might just be me.
  • Outside of town, we see the countryside, a snowy area, and a lava dungeon. Seems like a decent variety of environments so far.

Folks, I try not to say this often, but the hype is real. Hundred Heroes has got to be my most anticipated 2023 release, and the fact that developer Rabbit & Bear is putting so much love and care into this “mere” appetizer bodes well for the main course. Count me among those on lock to be getting this game.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising will be releasing in Spring 2022 on all the major platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC), and you can preorder it on Steam. Be sure to keep reading RPGFan for the latest Eiyuden Chronicle news!
