Nintendo and developer Cygames have announced that Chapter 26, part two of their free-to-play mobile RPG Dragalia Lost will arrive this July, bringing an end to the main campaign. The full game service will be shutting down “at a later date” after players are duly notified.
March 31st will mark the introduction of the last set of adventurers in a summon showcase, following which the game will no longer receive new content “aside from those for the main campaign and certain quests.” The developers’ statement mentions that “summon showcases for existing adventurers and dragons, as well as event revivals, will continue to be made available until service has ended.”
Players online have expressed sadness and dismay at Dragalia Lost‘s looming closure as well as gratitude toward the staff whose work made the experience so enjoyable. Watching this outpouring of love and passion for the game has been affecting, to say the least.
The soundtrack is a pleasant, breezy listen; had I been an active participant since the game’s launch in 2018, I don’t think I would’ve gotten that home screen theme out of my head. That’s why it bothers me that service games can just shut down and become totally inaccessible at publishers’ whims. I wonder if Cygames could push out a final update that enables offline access to the existing content and rotates quests and events for players to grind as they please, ala Nintendo Badge Arcade. In any case, check in with RPGFan to find out whatever happens next for Dragalia Lost.
