Just like before, it’s GrimGrimoire OnceMore! The remaster of the 2007 PS2 game GrimGrimoire was announced by Vanillaware and Nippon Ichi Software in the latest Weekly Famitsu. It’s currently a Japan-only release scheduled for July 28th this year for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and it’ll retail for ¥5,478 JPY. Peep the trailer below.

That’s right, it’s a strategy RPG, but it doesn’t play like your standard grid-based fare. GrimGrimoire OnceMore hews closer to RTS games such as WarCraft, though its side-scrolling nature makes it wholly unique. Here’s the English trailer for the original PlayStation 2 release if you want more gameplay and character info. Gematsu has details on the remaster’s new features, which I’ll reproduce below.

New System: “Great Magic” – Four types of “Great Magic” that can be used during battle have been implemented. Activated with newly illustrated cut-ins.

High-resolution graphics and widescreen aspect ratio.

“Fast-Forward” function for battle and story parts.

“Mid-Battle Save” function for battle parts.

The difficulty level of “Hard” mode has been adjusted to be more challenging than the original version.

New System: Skill Tree – Earn coins by completing tasks set for each stage. Coins can be used to strengthen familars. Coins can also be refunded.

Gallery Mode – Enjoy various illustrations.

New voice cast:

– Lillet Blan (voiced by Iori Saeki)

– Margarita Surprise (voiced by Miharu Hanai)

– Gammel Dore (voiced by Teruo Seki)

– Advocat (voiced by Hiromichi Tezuka)

We just got 13 Sentinels on Switch this week, but George Kamitani and co. have deemed it fit to grace us with yet more hand-illustrated goodness. Now, if we could only get word on a Western release…

GrimGrimoire OnceMore launches in Japan on July 28th for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. RPGFan happens to have reviewed the original game as well as the soundtrack, so check those out if you want to dive deep. Stick with us for a potential Western release date for GrimGrimoire OnceMore as well as general strategy RPG coverage!
