Goodbye Volcano High Delays Farewell to Summer 2023

Artwork for Goodbye Volcano High

The farewell to Goodbye Volcano High is going to take a little longer. Developer KO_OP delayed the story-driven adventure game from 2022 to summer 2023. Unfortunately, COVID-19 continues to impact the small team and the “ambitious scope of work” presented by the game. The global pandemic had initially delayed the game’s planned 2021 release to 2022.

To make up for the delay, here’s a brand new teaser trailer:

KO_OP had this to say about the delay:

We care about this game and the story we’re telling so much and want to deliver something that is in line with what we’ve always envisioned. It’s what you deserve! We understand this delay might be disappointing, but we are confident this is the right decision and that it will be worth the wait.

About Goodbye Volcano High from its Steam page:

Features

• Fully voice-acted and starring Lachlan Watson (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina)
• Branching narrative: navigate through difficult choices with far-reaching consequences
• Stunning hand-drawn art and character animations—feels like a playable cartoon
• Written using the storytelling engine that powers Heaven’s Vault, 80 Days and Sorcery

Goodbye Volcano High: a hybrid cinematic narrative/rhythm game/coming of age/interactive movie experience. Call it whatever you want, just wishlist it!

The world’s about to explode. Just in time for senior year.

Just Fang’s luck: they finally figure out what they want out of life, and now the world’s about to explode.

Ok. So the world’s ending—do you tell your crush your feelings? Fix your messed-up family dynamic? Write the best song ever ever ever?? Try to do it all?

Goodbye Volcano High is a story-driven, choice-based cinematic adventure game about personal growth, acceptance, and the power of community. What will you do at the end of an era?

Decide Who To Be

Your choices shape who Fang becomes, and determine your gameplay experience. Discover what the future holds as you play through your final year at Volcano High. No pressure…

Chosen Family Values

Get close with friends, family, acquaintances, frenemies, crushes (crushes!?!). Figure out how you’re gonna be there for your loved ones when it matters most—it is the literal end of the world, after all. Nurturing relationships builds affinity and changes the outcome of your gameplay.

Don’t Let the Apocalypse Get You Down

Write songs, play different instruments, and put all the shit that’s hard to say into your music with an interactive rhythm and lyrics system. Then perform those original tracks to create a soundtrack fitted to your story.

Dino Minigames & Prehistoric Interactions

Immerse yourself in Fang’s day-to-day through interactions. In-game dinosaur-themed social media and interactive one-offs make you a part of Fang’s life.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains mature representations of queer teen life, strong language, mentions of drug and alcohol use, death, and sexuality.

Goodbye Volcano High will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 and PC via Steam. Stay tuned to RPGFan once the final release date is revealed!
