Sports Story Available Now on Switch

A mash-up of athletes playing four different sports in Sports Story.

Sidebar Games’ long-delayed Sports Story is out now on Nintendo Switch! You can grab this intriguing hybrid of genres that many gamers considered incompatible — sports and RPGs — for just $14.99 USD via the Nintendo eShop. Here’s its latest trailer, hot off the press courtesy of Nintendo!

Sports Story is the follow-up to 2017’s acclaimed Golf Story, which RPGFan’s Nicholas Ransbottom adored! It promises what sounds like a refreshing mix of tennis, golf, volleyball, and other sports, along with RPG mainstays like dungeon battles, exploration, and role playing with adorably animated friends and foes.

Here’s an overview of the game via Nintendo:

Sports story is a sports RPG like no other. Featuring a mix of sports and sporting activities wrapped up in one big story. With a multitude of characters to meet, you will make plenty of friends and enemies along the way. Sports Story isn’t just about sports, it’s an all-out sporting adventure.

Features:

– Play and master 8 unique golf courses. Rise through the ranks of the tennis world tour. Start your own soccer team. Your sporting destiny is in your own hands.

– Travel by train, helicopter and houseboat as you explore dungeons, abandoned ruins and the mysterious Wildlands.

– Raise your Sporting Rank to unlock new and varied activities like BMX, mini-golf, cricket, volleyball, fishing and more.

– Kick back at the mall with its daily attractions, specialty sports stores and mini games.

Did I mention Sports Story‘s adorable visuals yet? Here’s a sampling!

I’m deadly curious to see how this game swings with audiences and critics. If its well-loved predecessor is any indication, Sports Story might be the Switch’s next indie darling. For more on Sports Story as it finally reaches gamers this holiday season, stay tuned to RPGFan!
